“Then King David went in and sat before the Lord”. -2 Samuel 7:18
If you look at the original language the sense here is not that David just sat down for a few minutes before the Lord. The idea here is more along the lines of David pitching a tent and deciding to camp out in the presence of the Lord! He was dwelling there, making His home in the Presence.
There’s a vast difference between flitting in and out of the Presence of God and living there!
David’s living there.
And what happens?
PERSPECTIVE HAPPENS.
As David was dwelling in the Presence of God everything came into proper perspective. By that I mean he saw the greatness of God and it caused him to see his own smallness in comparison.
“Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?” -2 Samuel 7:18
“Who am I?”
If that question doesn’t come to mind we haven’t been in the Presence of God long enough!
When Isaiah saw the LORD he said, “Woe is me!”
When Job saw the Lord he said, “Now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.” (Job 42:6)
King David was a man after God’s own heart. He understood intimacy with God. He wrote many wonderful Psalms that detail His relationship with God. Yet, when he camps out in the Presence of the Lord he comes into the place of HUMILTY. He understands that all of the blessings in his life are undeserved. He didn’t assume the posture of “being worthy”, instead he asked, “Who am I”?
