Disentangling Myself From The Prophetic Movement

Disentangling myself from the Prophetic Movement has been a slow and torturous process. I would say that I’m mostly free of it now, but I’m still processing my involvement with the whole thing, and what I experienced while I was a part of it.

I look back now at the sheer idiocy of so many of the things that I witnessed. I was aware that so much of it was totally ridiculous, and yet, I stayed within the movement. By doing so, I unwittedly allowed some of it to become part of me. I was not only a witness of it, I participated in it!

It would be easy to be dismissive of those who are part of the Prophetic Movement, but I think that would be completely wrong. The reality is that most of these people are spiritually hungry and looking for something more than the dead form that we so often see in so many religious circles. I can’t fault the heart of these people because they’re in search of the Living God and want to be found in His presence. I cannot in any way fault them for their zeal in this. I only wish that it would be tempered by knowledge.

It is dangerous to have zeal without knowledge. – Proverbs 19:2

If we were more willing to let the Bible be our guide we would not fall into the traps of spiritual foolishness. Much that is harmful could be avoided while retaining that which is profitable and beautiful in our relationship with God.

Long before I ever entered into the Prophetic Movement I enjoyed a rich experiential relationship with God. I heard His voice, I lived in His presence, I enjoyed His love. I walked in the supernatural and the gifts of the Holy Spirit were evident in my life. I did not need the Prophetic Movement for these things.

I truly believe that there is much that needs to be cleaned up and corrected in this movement. Doing so, would be to the benefit of all those involved.
