A Songbird Without A Song

“The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land.” -Song of Song 2:12

Intimacy with God always comes with a song. The Psalmist said, “The Lord is my strength and my song…”

What does it mean for the Lord to be my song?

I will tell you what it means to me.

The Lord is my song when I am so filled with love for Him, so overtaken with delight in Him, that I cannot help but sing about it. When I am so enraptured by Him and He is so much in my thoughts that as I go about my day the gladness of my heart spills forth in music.

Oh Jesus you are the constant delight of my heart. You’re all I can think about day and night!

Does God ravish your soul? Are you swept off your feet and dizzy with love because of Him? Is He so much in your heart that you can’t help but have a song on your lips?

“To the tune of “The Lilies.” A Maskil of the sons of Korah. A love song. My heart is stirred by a noble theme as I recite my verses to the king; my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.” -Psalm 45:1

Love for Jesus makes every child of God a songwriter! Your tongue becomes a pen!

It’s well known that every revival in the history of the church has come with a revival in singing. Why is that? Because singing is the language of love.

Who can fall madly in love without a song bursting forth from the heart? Oh, when you’re in love you want to tell the whole world about it!

A songbird without a song?

How sad it is when a child of God loses their song. What kind of songbird is it that never sings?

Make no mistake- the child of God is meant to be a songbird!

“My heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God… Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!” -Psalm 84:2,4

I can always tell when somebody is burning with love for Jesus. It shows on their face, it’s heard in their voice, it sparkles in their eyes.

First love cannot be hidden. Whenever love is kindled fire can be seen!

When the Lord is my song it becomes evident to the whole world around me. It’s more obvious than a teenager in love!

“As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.” -Song of Song 2:3-4
