The Nectar Of His Presence

“Your lips drip nectar, my bride; honey and milk are under your lips. “ -Song of Songs 4:11

What do we find on the lips of the bride of Christ? Nectar, milk and honey!

Nectar is what bees collect to make honey. The sweetness of the Word of God on our lips is nourishment for the Body of Christ. My brothers and sisters in Christ are like bees, and the sweetness of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God is supposed to flow from my lips so that others can make honey from it! Every child of God should have nectar flowing from their lips for others to partake of.

But notice, not only does nectar flow from my lips, but there is also milk and honey in my mouth!

What can this mean other than that I have tasted of the sweetness of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit has made honey out of it in my own life! What a wonderful thing it is to be filled with the sweetness of the Lord Jesus Christ. Everything tastes of His goodness and sweetness.

“Taste and see that the LORD is good.” -Psalm 34:8

The impartation of Christ is given to others when our lips drip with His sweetness. How important are the words that proceed out of our mouths! My enjoyment of Christ, my delight in Him, my personal experience of tasting and seeing that He is good will eventually find its way out of my mouth. What fills my heart will eventually fill my mouth.

“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” -Luke 6:45

I don’t believe this can be faked.

Speaking sweet words is not the same thing as having His nectar on my lips, it’s not the same thing as having His honey on my tongue. When somebody’s been to the restaurant of Heaven their breath smells like the meal they’ve just eaten! When you come out of the presence of the Lord honey is still on your lips just as surely as the glow was still on the face of Moses after he had been in the presence of God. You can’t fake this. Nothing can substitute for His presence. People can tell the difference between us actually being in His Presence or just talking about it. When we partake of Him, His taste is on our lips, His sweetness is in our mouths. When we drink deeply of Him the nectar of His presence drips from our lips!

What a wonderful thing, when every word out of my mouth is covered with the sweetness of God!

And then there is this other thing mentioned in the Song of Songs that is also mentioned in 1st Peter.

Yes, there is nectar, yes there is honey, but there is also milk in our mouths.

How did we get milk in our mouth?

Surely it comes from drinking deeply of the Word of God!

“As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby…” -1 Peter 2:2

When we drink of the Word of God it stays on our tongue and comes out of our mouths!

Oh, how we are to love the Word of God! Do you have a taste for it? You know that the Word became flesh, don’t you? How can you not have a taste for the Word of God, when Jesus IS the Word of God??

It was Jesus who talked to the crowds about eating His flesh and drinking His blood. When you’ve done that, there will be the taste of Him in your mouth. Your lips will have the sweetness of nectar; your mouth will be filled with honey and the milk of His Word if you have truly tasted of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Oh, that the whole Church would enter into the Song of Songs! Oh, that we would drink deep of His love and that our lips would drip of His sweetness.
