As I was praying today I was thinking how the scripture says that God has written His word on my heart.
“You are a letter of Messiah, delivered by us, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.” -2 Corinthians 3:3
How awesome it is that Jesus has written His words on my heart! But as I started thinking about it I began to wonder, “Have I added to what He’s written?”
I can see from His warning in the Book of Revelation that God doesn’t appreciate it when we add to or subtract from what He’s written!
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.” -Revelation 22:18-19
My heart isn’t the Book of Revelation so please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not worried about these curses coming upon me!
But I will say this, to whatever degree we add or subtract to the words that God has spoken to us we will suffer in some way for doing so. This is simply because God’s Word is true and it is detrimental to us when we deviate from it.
The work of the enemy is always to add to or subtract from the Word of God.
Many of the problems that we deal with as Christians come from allowing things into our hearts that God never intended to be written there.
So my prayer is that if I have altered the Word of God by adding to it or subtracting from it, that God would be the editor and proofreader of the text that’s on my heart.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” -Psalm 139:23
